Last week Microsoft made a big splash at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's (HIMSS) annual conference, showcasing
its comprehensive plan to help healthcare providers of all sizes meet
increasing productivity and security demands; improve mobility,
collaboration and communication; control ever-escalating costs; and
focus on patient-centered care.
Microsoft also announced a number of healthcare organizations last week including FHI 360, Gwinnett Hospital System Inc. Kindred Healthcare, Inc and Mihills Webb Medical who've selected Office 365 to help improve the delivery of services to their customers. Office 365 is particularly appealing to healthcare organizations because it is the first and only major cloud business productivity solution to address United States Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. In addition, Microsoft has taken the additional
step of offering HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) to customers.
FHI 360 needed a solution that would fit the needs of their company as well as those of their recently acquired nonprofit human development organization, Academy for Educational Development. Office 365 provided them with a cohesive unified cloud solution that was trusted and familiar to employees of both companies.
Gwinnett Hospital System Inc. was looking for a new technology solution to address their lack of IM and conferencing technologies and help attract new young employees. Gwinnett chose Microsoft Lync Online to allow for remote collaboration in the cloud at a great value. Now they can collaborate remotely and save on costs associated with travel.
Kindred Healthcare, Inc. needed a solution that would meet the security and privacy requirements mandated by HIPAA after merging with RehabCare. Prior to the merge, RehabCare was powering Google Apps on mobile devices, but Kindred found that this solution didn't meet HIPAA mobile privacy, eDiscovery and security requirements. Kindred's decision to deploy Office 365 across both organizations was due to the fact that Office 365 addresses both HIPAA regulations and offers HIPAA Act BAAs.
Mihills Webb Medical, not only looked to improve its communication and collaboration practices, but needed to have a sense of confidence that their security and privacy requirements addressed by HIPAA were met. And because Mihills Web Medical is a small five-physician family practice, they looked to the cloud and Office 365 to help consolidate resources and save money while also helping ensure their data was secured. HIPAA support was critical for the practice - and non-negotiable. With Office 365Mihills Webb Medical was not only able to maintain HIPAA with a BAA,, but unify its communications across the office.
